Tennis Elbow in Waterloo, London SE1
Pain on the outer elbow from tendon overload — and despite the name, it’s rarely from tennis.
Book onlineTennis elbow
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylalgia) is pain on the outer side of the elbow, where the forearm tendons attach. It’s usually felt with gripping, lifting or twisting — and despite the name, most cases come from everyday repetitive use, not tennis.
It’s a tendon-overload problem: the demand on the forearm tendons has exceeded what they can handle.
Often it isn’t where it hurts
The elbow is rarely the whole story. Grip strength, wrist mechanics, and even how the shoulder and neck contribute to arm use all affect the load on those forearm tendons. That’s why treating only the elbow often disappoints — we assess the wrist, elbow, shoulder and neck to find what’s overloading it.
How we treat it
Treatment settles the irritated tendon, addresses the grip, wrist and shoulder factors loading it, and rebuilds tendon capacity with a progressive loading programme.
We’ll also help you modify the activities that aggravate it so it can recover.
Common questions
Do I have to stop using my arm?
No — complete rest usually isn’t helpful for tendons. We’ll guide which activities to modify while loading it appropriately.
How long does tennis elbow take to settle?
Tendons are slow to respond, but most improve steadily with consistent loading and by addressing the cause.
Did I get it from playing tennis?
Usually not — most tennis elbow comes from everyday gripping and repetitive use, not the sport.
Will a brace or strap help?
A strap can ease symptoms short-term, but it doesn’t fix the cause — we address the loading and the factors driving it.
We’re ready to help you navigate your pain — when you are.
Most people who come to us have been carrying this for too long, hoping it would settle on its own. When you’re ready to actually understand what’s driving it, we’re here. Start with a free 15-minute call, or send a message below — we’ll come back to you personally.
