Knee pain

Knee pain — at the front, side or around the kneecap — often flares with running, squatting, stairs or kneeling. The knee is frequently where the pain shows up, but rarely where the problem starts.

We look above and below the knee to find what’s actually loading it.

Often it isn’t where it hurts

The knee is a stability joint — built to be controlled, not to twist — and it sits between two mobility joints, the hip and the ankle. When the ankle stiffens or the hip loses control, the knee absorbs the rotation and load they should have managed, and that’s where the pain appears. So treating only the knee often misses the cause. We assess the hip, knee and ankle together.

How we treat it

Treatment restores the movement and control missing at the hip and ankle, and settles the irritated structures at the knee.

Then we rebuild loading so the knee is protected — whether you’re running, lifting or just getting through the day.

Common questions

Why does my knee hurt when my scan is clear?

Knee pain is often a loading and control problem, not structural damage — which is why scans can look fine while it still hurts.

Is my knee pain coming from somewhere else?

Frequently — a stiff ankle or poor hip control sends stress to the knee. We assess the whole chain.

Can I keep running or training?

Often yes, with modifications. We’ll give you a way to keep moving while we treat it.

How is it treated?

Hands-on work plus targeted rehab for the hip, knee and ankle, then a return to loading.
